The specificity of Toulon-City’s Duty-Free Urban Zone
- On November 27th2006 the ministry for social cohesion made public the perimeter of the Duty-Free Urban Zone (Z.F.U) created in the town centre of Toulon. This perimeter extends well beyond the existing sensitive urban area: on the whole 52 ha of the downtown area will profit from the tax and social incentives related to the Z.F.U.
- The decision relating to Toulon City is a “first” because no town centre had ever been classified as a duty-free zone before.
- The Duty-free urban Zone scheme comes to economically and socially supplement the urban renovation of the historical centre started by Toulon City (M€168 from 2006 to 2011) with the support of A.N.R.U, social lessors, the Conseil Général du Var T.P.M urban area, the Conseil régional and the European Union.
