The works, initiated for an amount of about 28 million euros, concern the reorganization of the outer spaces and the interoperability (access and connection of the various ways of transportation) as well as the entire restructuration of the building welcoming travellers.

Enlargement and modernization of the train station:

Besides the renovation of the historic ceiling, the surface of the hall of the train station will be enlarged, passing from 380 to 630 m².

Further to the creation of a new parking lot of a capacity of more than 200 places on two levels (delivered in summer, 2012) and of several quick drop-off areas, the square will gain in space thanks to the future summer construction of two halls of 200 m² each.

The project of refitting Toulon train station is part of the development policy of the railroad network of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. This plan also falls into the scope of the modernization of train stations and their infrastructures, operated by the French Railroad network.

With an increase of 25 % of the attendance rate of the train station during the summer (3,600,000 travellers were listed in 2010 and approximately 4,750,000 expected in 2020) the enlargement of the train station and its modernization were a necessity. The construction site, developed in stages, should be finalized in the horizon 2014.
